Get ready because today marks the very first day of The 2017 Solar Splash competition!

What’s It About?
Just as a reminder, Solar Splash is an event that takes place in freshwater and that involves solar boat teams from international and local colleges. The goal of the competition is to find the teams that can best exploit the sun in a small watercraft. The duration of the event is five days starting from today, the 7th of June to the 11th. Its purpose is testing workmanship, endurance, speed and resourcefulness. Starting today, the next few days will include on-site and on-water challenges. There will be multiple races/challenges as well. These include the Solar Slalom, the Solar Endurance and a 300 meter race.

This is a great competition that promotes the use of solar power to generate energy. However, it is also great because this year it takes place in Springfield, Ohio so you get to do some sight seeing as well!
Sight Seeing in Ohio
When you’re not at the competition, you might as well tour around Springfield, Ohio! Here are 3 places you could visit:
- The Hartman Rock Garden – a beautiful and historic park you should be sure to check out!
- If into museums, take a guided tour at the Springfield Museum of Art!
- The Pennsylvania House, a historic inn from 1822.
If you have other suggestions, be sure to let us know in the comments below! We’re sure the next 4 days will be amazing and we wish all the participants the best of luck!
Our only regret is that we’re not there…hopefully for the next competition we will be!
