The speed with which fake news travels socially makes it harder for World Health Organization to do its job. They recently posted a series of myth busters. We repeat some of them here. We are in a better position to protect ourselves when we know the Covid-19 truth compared to urban myth.

Learn the Covid-19 Truth Not Some of These Myths

1… You can kill the new virus with a hand dryer. NO, an alcohol-based hand rub is the only way to sanitize your hands. Soap and water are an acceptable alternative. Dry your hands with clean paper towel, or a warm air dryer.

2… You can cleanse your skin with ultraviolet disinfection.  In theory YES, however ultra violet light damages skin, and that damage could become cancererous if you do so repeatedly. Use alcohol-based hand rub or soap and water.

3… Thermal scanners always detect the virus. Unfortunately NOT: Thermal scanners detect people with high temperatures. Covid-19 takes between 2 and 10 days to trigger a fever. That’s the first time we know the covid-19 truth

4 … Spraying humans with chlorine or alcohol kills the virus. The virus, if you had it, would be inside your body so that WILL NOT work. You could damage mucous membranes in your nose, mouth, eyelids, windpipe and lungs.

5… It is safe to receive packages from China. That is CORRECT. World Health Organization says the virus will not survive long enough and therefore there’s no risk of contracting Covid-19 that way.

6… You can catch coronavirus from a pet. That’s simply NOT true. However, you should wash your hands after you touch your pet because you could catch common bacteria like e. coli and salmonella.

8… Coronavirus affects old people, kids are safe. The virus infects ALL people of all ages. Healthy young bodies better resist the worst effects. Older people with conditions like asthma, diabetes, and heart disease may become very ill.

I tripped over a shrinking bank balance and fell into the writing gig unintentionally. This was after I escaped the corporate world and searched in vain for ways to become rich on the internet by doing nothing. Despite the fact that writing is no recipe for wealth, I rather enjoy it. I will not deny I am obsessed with it when I have the time. I live in Margate on the Kwazulu-Natal south coast of South Africa. I work from home where I ponder on the future of the planet, and what lies beyond in the great hereafter. Sometimes I step out of my computer into the silent riverine forests, and empty golden beaches for which the area is renowned. Richard
