Our culture has emphasized the need for pregnant women to take extra precautions when carrying, since time immemorial. U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) published an update study on November 2, 2020 factoring in COVID-19. Their findings provide more reasons to take care when expecting than ever before.
Highlighting More Reasons to Take Care When Expecting
The CDC study contains a wealth of detail for further reading. We append a link at the conclusion of this article in case you are interested. The researchers reviewed data from 461,825 women between 15 and 44 with symptomatic COVID-19, between January 22 and October 3, 2020.
They found their study group was more likely to experience COVID complications, than their peers who were not pregnant. Intensive care unit admission, invasive ventilation, extra-corporeal oxygenation, and death feature among reasons to take care when expecting. The infected women were also more likely to deliver their babies early.

More Solid Evidence COVID Can Cause Medical Complications
The researchers say their findings are not in isolation, but in fact support earlier research by others. They hope their work will inform clinical practice, risk communication, and medical countermeasure allocation.
And they recommend medical professionals inform pregnant women of their higher medical danger, and what to do about it. They advise they shun close contacts with infected persons, and wear face masks as a habit even at home. If they leave their homes for whatever reason, they must abide with masking, distancing, and hand hygiene precautions too.
They should also avoid weakening their immune systems with concurrent infections. And take their flu shots on medical advice. And it should go without saying they should avoid social gatherings out of abundant caution. We hope they see their term through and deliver their babies with a smile.
