America’s multinational corporation Johnson & Johnson owns many companies around the world. One of its subsidiaries, Janssen Pharmaceutica conducts research into a wide variety of human medical disorders in Beerse, Belgium. U.S. Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority gave Janssen US$ 456 million to develop a vaccine against the new coronavirus. Breaking news today is the Johnson and Johnson ENSEMBLE vaccine is on final trial among 60,000 adults again.
Johnson & Johnson Vaccine In Final Trial in U.S. Too
But the trial was previously put on hold in U.S. when one subject fell ill. However, independent Data Safety and Monitoring Board failed to determine a cause. And now the agency has agreed with U.S. Food and Drug Administration FDA to release the remaining hold. The ENSEMBLE vaccine follows a similar line of reasoning to the AstraZeneca / Oxford Group serum.
However, Janssen Pharmaceutica is using a virus that normally infects people, while the Oxford Group is using one that infects chimpanzees. These approaches are, of course both experimental. But the Janssen Pharmaceutica vaccine is on par with the Pfizer and BioNTech one, in terms of 90% success predicted by earlier trials.
Other Aspects That May Make ENSEMBLE Vaccine Relevant
The Johnson & Johnson vaccine on final trial may prove to be a more practical solution in the developing world. That’s because it appears to be administratively simpler to distribute. Moreover, achieving success in developing countries is hugely important. That’s because there could be long-reaching global implications if their economies stagger under the weight of the pandemic.
1… The Janssen Pharmaceutica vaccine may only require one dose, although double doses are also testing
2… The Janssen Pharmaceutica vaccine on trial only requires basic refrigeration as it travels from factory to user
Moreover, vaccinating the developing world for COVID-19 would reduce the possibility of a mutated version developing overseas, and of it traveling back to North America on one of our citizens.
