Back in May 2021 World Health Organization remarked on how COVID-19 “exposed persistent inequalities by income, age, race, sex and geographic location”. Despite recent global health gains, it continued, people across the world face complex, interconnected threats to their health and well-being. Are we doomed to keep repeating history with Monkeypox too?

It Seems We Are Doomed to Repeat History Again

Viruses and bacteria do not respect nationality, wealth, or status in society. COVID reminded us how a blow to one is a blow to all. Our exports and imports to and from the developing world slumped when their economies staggered. We are in it together in a global pandemic.

Omaha World Herald posted an article concerning Monkeypox virus on July 30, 2022. Monkeypox is a viral disease affecting rodents and primates in west, and central Africa’s rain forests that sometimes transmit to humans.

The point at issue here is not how serious it is. The issue is how well we cope with the global spread of a viral disease. That’s because we need to be mindful Omicron could bounce back in the form of a more deadly variant at any moment.

How Well Or How Badly Are We Preparing for Monkeypox?

Omaha World Herald believes are repeating history again, and making the same mistakes as with COVID before. San Francisco announced a legal emergency on July 28, 2022, citing a growing number of Monkeypox cases. Meanwhile, public health officials are warning we seem doomed to keep repeating history again.

These officials are warning against “moves by rich countries to buy large quantities of monkeypox vaccine. While declining to share doses with Africa, which could leave millions of people unprotected against a more dangerous version of the disease. And thereby risk continued spillovers of the virus into humans.”

I tripped over a shrinking bank balance and fell into the writing gig unintentionally. This was after I escaped the corporate world and searched in vain for ways to become rich on the internet by doing nothing. Despite the fact that writing is no recipe for wealth, I rather enjoy it. I will not deny I am obsessed with it when I have the time. I live in Margate on the Kwazulu-Natal south coast of South Africa. I work from home where I ponder on the future of the planet, and what lies beyond in the great hereafter. Sometimes I step out of my computer into the silent riverine forests, and empty golden beaches for which the area is renowned. Richard
