Batteries Are Indispensable In Power Cuts

Batteries are the only way to get our hands on electricity, without physically plugging in somewhere. Even wireless power transfer gets its energy from another source. Batteries are the only form of truly portable energy. That’s how batteries help in power cuts when a storm strikes at night, and our world is suddenly dark. Unless we have a generator, of course.

Have a Fresh Stock of Batteries for Power Cuts

North Americans are fortunate to have an abundant, reliable supply of electricity. Many of them use their solar energy systems to pay their electricity bills. Diesel generators are far less popular, because of their noise and pollution.

But even our home generators and solar batteries are useless, when we are away from home. Besides, we need a Plan B for when they exhaust their fuel or capacity runtime. That’s why batteries are indispensable in power cuts sooner or later.

This is often the point when we reach for our UPS or flashlight, and hope we remembered to recharge them, and that they are in good condition too. Remember this, before you have to rely on batteries as your last resort, as we all will someday. Not all batteries are the same. Some are potentially dangerous!

More Tips for Keeping Going in the Dark

We surfed around for ideas for this post, and stumbled over an article in the Daily Record. You may wish to save these tips for a rainy day, or should we say for a dark night when the power is down:

  • Have multiple flashlights with fresh, or fully charged batteries at key points in your home.
  • If you are using primary, non-rechargeable batteries, make sure the family knows where you keep spare packs.
  • Recharge your smartphone, laptop or other critical device before evening, if the power supply is unreliable.
  • If you are plunged into darkness, keep the fridge and freezer doors closed. A fire blanket over them keeps them cold longer.
  • Switch off your electric irons, ovens, electric fires, air fryers, and other appliances that use heat, as soon as the power goes down.

Batteries are indispensable in power cuts when we need them right away. Make sure that your batteries never let you down, by purchasing wisely with your eye on quality and price.

I tripped over a shrinking bank balance and fell into the writing gig unintentionally. This was after I escaped the corporate world and searched in vain for ways to become rich on the internet by doing nothing. Despite the fact that writing is no recipe for wealth, I rather enjoy it. I will not deny I am obsessed with it when I have the time. I live in Margate on the Kwazulu-Natal south coast of South Africa. I work from home where I ponder on the future of the planet, and what lies beyond in the great hereafter. Sometimes I step out of my computer into the silent riverine forests, and empty golden beaches for which the area is renowned. Richard
