Charging EVs as fast as topping up gasoline tanks, has been a dream in our minds for years. Although perhaps not for as long as we have had this blog, since we started it on May 1, 2014. We are certainly not promoting a company which has finally broken the stalemate. We are merely recording a moment in time.
EV Charging Technology Fast as Topping up Gasoline
Charging EVs as fast as topping up gasoline autos, would mean an end to tiresome delays to our driving schedules. BYD claims the latest version of its ‘blade’ lithium-iron-phosphate battery, can accept 1,000 kilowatt charges.
The company has backed up this promise by beginning to roll out a network of ‘ultra-fast’ charging stations across China. And as a result, it can now claim to add 300 miles of driving range in five minutes, for the fortunate few, according to This is Money.
Other battery and electric auto makers will surely follow this lead, as success follows success. As BYD founder Wang Chuanfu himself famously says, ‘This leap forward has the potential to fundamentally resolve drivers’ charging anxiety.’
BYD has now turned its attention to developing electric cars, whose power matches its ‘blade’ lithium-iron-phosphate batteries. This comes at a most interesting point in electric vehicle history. Who can tell what happens next?
Glimpsing Topping Up Power That Beats Gasoline
However, those benefits cannot translate into reality for current EV drivers, including owners of existing BYD vehicles. That’s because they will need the new generation blade lithium-iron-phosphate batteries, that can cope with a 1,000 kilowatt charge.
The chances of owning the right vehicle, and finding one of the new ‘ultra-fast’ BYD charging stations are still slim at this stage. But at least we can say that we have glimpsed the future. A future where charging EVs is as fast as topping up with gasoline.
