News.Cn tagged the COVID-19 pandemic a fact of American life on September 7, 2021. This is a startling accusation after all the effort to put it behind us. We decided to dedicate several posts to exploring News.Cn’s basis for saying so, and to explore how things worked out differently.

Evidence COVID-19 Pandemic Is a Fact of American Life

The United States clocked up 40 million cases on September 6, 2021. The leap from the several million originally anticipated is solid proof the infection surge is continuing unchecked.

Moreover, News.Cn says the direct death toll was 649,000 against a total 40.1 million known cases, equating to 1.61% on that day. And 13 U.S. states had logged more than a million official cases by then. California topped the list with 4.4 million, followed by Texas and Florida with 3.7 and 3.3 million each.

This data makes the United States the nation most ravaged by the coronavirus. It has the world’s highest number of cases and deaths. In fact, its infections constitute 18% of the global caseload, while its deaths contribute 14% to the overall total.

Is the COVID-19 Pandemic Really a Fact of American Life?

The evidence certainly seems to point that way, although September 6, 2021 was Labor Day when social interaction was more intense than usual. Hospitalizations were 123.6% higher than a year ago.

Moreover, the seven-day moving case average was 1217% greater than the lowest level recorded, according to U.S. Centers for Disease Control.

We’ll consider the reasons for this situation advanced by News.Cn in an upcoming post. It’s important to understand why the United States is so afflicted this way. That’s because we hope the situation improves soon. It would be a tragedy if the world’s richest nation had to accept the COVID-19 pandemic as a fact of American life.
