COVID Infections Increase As Controls Relax

More than a few nations have proven that COVID infections increase when restrictions relax. The United Kingdom barely avoided a crisis, after its citizens apparently had too much Christmas. While France provides more evidence COVID infections increase as controls relax. The United States may be heading down the same road, as some its people over-rejoice in fresh freedom.

U.S. COVID Infections Increase as Controls Relax

The Washington Post confirmed a slight reversal of the previous positive trend on March 22, 2021. New COVID infections are increasing as controls relax in several U.S. states, despite record vaccinations, it says. It cites experts putting this down to widespread pandemic fatigue, and the impact of new variants.

The U.S. seven-day average of newly reported cases climbed 2.6 percent over the weekend, possibly as a result of this.  Authorities had to declare a state of emergency in Miami on March 21, 2021. And impose a night time curfew after spring reveling became ‘disruptive and violent.’

City commissioner David Richardson ascribed this to ‘A lot of pent-up demand from the pandemic, and people wanting to get out. And our state has been publicly advertised as being open, so that’s contributed to the issue,’ he said.

The Miami State of Emergency Extended to April 11th

The Miami police faced resistance as they broke up the partying under the temporary state of emergency. Some city leaders ascribed the situation to a surge in visitors from other, more restrictive environments. In this regard, The Washington Post notes Florida reopened before many other states, and has fewer restrictions.

But it’s also important to note that Miami has been battling spring break chaos for years. Therefore, we can’t hold the coronavirus entirely accountable. ‘At what point are we going to think about doing something different’ Commissioner Ricky Arriola asks? We would say that’s a good question.
