Denmark announced a temporary pause in COVID vaccinations on April 27, 2022. This is the next step in declaring the disease under control, after lifting all restrictions on February 1, 2022. However, this does not necessarily mean other countries should follow its example.  Denmark is pausing COVID-19 vaccinations after fully vaccinating 82% of its population.

Denmark COVID-19 Vaccination Pause Based on Fact

Moreover, the peace-loving Scandinavian nation is not backing off from its inoculation program on account of public pressure. Denmark reports daily average 1,549 cases based on the previous 7 days. Furthermore, less than 1,000 people have been in hospital with COVID-19 since early April 2022, according to New Scientist.

The Local English News service interviewed Bolette Søborg, director of Danish Health Authority’s department of infectious diseases. She explained her country is in a good position. “Therefore we are winding down the mass vaccination program against Covid-19,” she continued.

Some 61.6% of Denmark’s 5.8 million inhabitants have also received a booster shot. Denmark is pausing COVID-19 vaccinations on May 15, 2022. However, officials plan to restart the program when the summer ends . “This will be preceded by a thorough professional assessment of who and when to vaccinate, and with which vaccines” they explain.

Are We Becoming Blind to Patterns of Transmission?

World Health Organization director-general Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus shared concerns with New Scientist reporters. He believes reduced testing in many countries means “the world is increasingly blind to patterns of transmission and evolution of COVID-19”.

The WHO is receiving “less and less information about transmission and sequencing” he told a media conference April 26, 2022. Yet infection rates are still high in many developed countries. In UK for example the virus was the sixth leading cause of death in England in March, and this accounted for 4.3 per cent of all fatalities in that month.
