COVID-19 has been a time of disruption and sadness. But an apt reminder of the value of love, and life too. Did you hear of the young couple booking a US$32,000 private flight for the love of a dog in COVID-19 quarantine? We believe it is a good news. Although we’ll grant there could have been other ways to spend the money.
No Fixed Abode for Munchkin for Five Years
Australians Tash Corbin and fiancé David Daynes fell in love with Bali street dog Munchkin, when he was a stray puppy. However, he spent three years with foster families in Singapore after failing Australia’s strict medical tests. Finally they packed it up and moved to New Zealand South Island, where they have more relaxed rules according to News 24
But trouble brewed again to spoil their domestic bliss five months ago. Tash returned to Australia for medical reasons, leaving David and Munchkin all on their own. We guess they became kind of lonely with Christmas coming. By their own words the couple were ‘in such a privileged position’ through business interests they could afford a private flight.
A Private Jet for the Love of a Dog in COVID-19
There are few direct flights from New Zealand’s South Island, to Australia’s Sunshine coast across the Tasman Sea. Munchkin and David would have had to depart from North Island, and pass through a two week quarantine to get there. This was cutting it fine. They needed a Plan B for the love of their dog in virtual COVID-19 quarantine.
Fortunately the two countries have an easy-going policy for travel between them. Even Munchkin does not require a permit, although he will need a post-arrival check-up. Tash and David have hired a private jet to reunite all three of them in Australia. They have four spare seats on offer at half the flight cost, in case you are flying that way before Christmas.
