We ended last week with a post updating you on the Hayden Robotics’ first competition of the year: the Georgian College competition. This week, we’re starting you off with an update on their McMaster tournament!
As you know, the Hayden Robotics team is competing for their second time at the First Robotics competition with a robot built and designed by 50 amazing students!
The McMaster Tournament
This tournament happened over the 7-8th of April weekend and it was the deciding factor for provincial cut offs! The team did very well overall!
Their autonomous and climbing was very efficient and the cycle time between picking up cubes and delivering them to the vaults were very quick! These skills were very useful as the team’s mission was to pick up as many blocks as possible and to carry them from one station to another. Here is a little video from the tournament:
Their first day went very well and they won most of the games! However, later in the day, their robot’ encoders broke. Fortunately, the team got together fast and with the help of Loana, the encoder’s designer, they autonomous program was working perfectly fine again!
Did They Make it to Provincials?
As with their Geogrian College competition, the Hayden Robotics joined up with Alliance 7 on the second day of the tournament. While they had many wins on the first day, they unfortunately lost at the quarter finals on the second day.
Overall, they ranked 84th in Canada which was so close to being in the top 80 and so close to qualifying for provincials! For provincials in Canada, the team must be within the top 80 and while the team was disappointed, they were still happy to have reached this far!
This is what they had to say about it: “Even though our Robotics season this year has come to end, we are still very proud of how we did at the McMaster tournament. As a second year team, we competed extremely well, considering we are still new, and have had one year experience prior!”
We definitely agree and we wish them the best of luck in their studies for the year!
Thanks for reading! Did your team make provincials? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
