Dr. Anthony Fauci has a reputation for making predictions that come true, at least according to Yahoo News. Perhaps we should heed his advice and take extra care this holiday season. We consider his reasoning.
We could be approaching a ‘really stunning number of deaths’, he warns, with Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa and New Year’s Eve lined up like a train, and following one after the other. But that stunning number is not inevitable, he believes.
Run the Numbers Take Extra Care This Holiday Season
The director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases is concerned the colder weather and ‘sequential holiday seasons’ could double the cumulative number of U.S. COVID-19 deaths. ‘You do the math on that,’ he told Yahoo News.
‘Two to three thousand deaths a day times a couple of months, and you’re approaching a really stunning number of deaths.’ The vaccines will be too late to stem the winter surge. But this is not inevitable, if we take extra care this holiday season and ‘blunt the trajectory’, he says.
If the authorities won’t take what he considers necessary steps, there are simple things that we can do. At least to try to protect ourselves. Such as seeing people outside the household in outdoor settings, and wearing masks in company.
Or Is This All Fake News We Can Safely Ignore?
‘It’s beyond stunning to me. It’s almost incomprehensible, how in places where you have intensive care beds completely full,’ Fauci reflects. ‘And intensive care patients needing to be housed in other places, and … the possibility of pending shortages of staff.
‘That in those same places they’re still saying it’s fake news, it’s a hoax. How could you possibly do that when it’s staring you right in the face in the place where you live? That people are dying in intensive care units. I don’t get that, at all,’ his message is on Yahoo News.
