And….. they’ve done it again! For the 5th time in a row, the Cedarville team has come out as the 2019 Solar Splash winners!!! Fifth time in a row, but their 12th win out of 26 championships, what an impressive team!
The Team
Not only did Cedarville become the 2019 Solar Splash winners, they also got 1st place in every event! These events include the qualifying, slalom, endurance, and sprint events. They got their win with the help of their senior professor of mechanical engineering, Dr. Tim Dewhurst and the associate prfoessor of electrical engineering, Dr. Gerry Brown.
This year’s team members include Tineka Witt from Central Lake, Michigan; Jeremy Sheckler from Phelps, New York; Cameron Smith from Blandon, Pennsylvania; Kaileb O’Neil from Windham, New Hampshire; Dawson Tso from Hillsborough, New Hampshire; and Ethan Maue from Homer Glen, Illinois.
Solar Splash Results:
While the Cedarville were first in everything, it was certainly not an easy win. Puerto Rico’s team was extremely close behind. In fact, they were only 1.56 points away from winning! Cedarville finished with an overall score of 961 points out of 1000, whereas Puerto Rico finished with an impressive 954.44 points out of 1000. We can’t even begin to imagine the nerves the teams were experiencing on both ends!
The rest of the teams did quite well too. With Puerto Rico scoring second place, Stevens Institute of technology made it to 3rd, while the University of New Mexico scored 4th overall.
We plan to make a post about each of these top 4 teams and their progress, so stay tuned!
