U.S. colleges are relaxing their COVID-19 restrictions this fall, according to NPR Morning Edition on August 16, 2022. Millions of enthusiastic youngsters are looking forward to completing their third semester since the pandemic struck. But things will be different in their dorms this fall, as US college students drop their guard this time.
Students at US Colleges Will Drop Their Guard Come Fall
Many students may be delighted to know that face masks will be optional at in-person classes. There will also be less testing, as quarantine and isolation dorms return to regular student accommodation. That’s because many college officials are keen to see the classic college experience return. However others are more cautious.
“I don’t think we can just forget about COVID at all,” remarks the director of student health services at a polytechnic in Massachusetts. “But I do think we can kind of live with COVID for the first time, and still do all of the other normal things. And that feels really different about this year than the past two.”
These changes come about against a background of declining confirmed COVID-19 cases in the past several weeks. US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention confirms this trend, by reporting hospitalizations and deaths are lower than in any other phase of the pandemic.
College Students Arrive to a Different Experience
A different culture than before will meet students, as they shoulder more responsibility for making their own decisions. They can choose for themselves whether to share large cardboard boxes on wheels, and save time moving gear to their dorms.
There will also be less restrictions on going to parties too. Opportunities to hang around after classes and chat with professors will back. We encourage college students to make the best, safe use of what may well turn out to be, the very best days of their lives.
