Our society thrives on producing, using and throwing away products because that’s what easy for us and that’s what we like. However, that kind of economy-also known as a linear economy-is not the most efficient and environmentally-friendly. That is why Toronto is trying to move towards a more circular economy. In other words, towards an economy that keeps the products around to benefit multiple parties in efforts of continuous up-cycling. The idea of up-cycling aims to re-use products in order to be more eco-friendly. To help make this transition in Toronto, organizations such as Partners in Project Green have come out.

Check out this intro video learn about Partners in Project Green:

What Do They Do?

A  Canadian-based company, Partners in Project Green is focused on bringing communities together to ensure the building of an Eco-friendly society. They join together like-minded businesses who want to make a difference in their environments and communities. The ultimate goal for them is to achieve a zero-waste society. How they are trying to achieve that is by helping out businesses in the GTA and beyond up-cycle their materials and donate them to other businesses who can reuse them for different purposes. In the past, they have worked with the businesses surrounding the Pearson airport, the Toronto Zoo,  and most recently Coca Cola!

The Coca Cola Project:

One of the the Partners in Project Green’s recent projects was with Coca Cola. Coca Cola claims to be very conscious about their waste so they try to be as eco-friendly as possible. The fact that they produce billions of products worldwide makes this project even more important as they produce incredible amounts of waste. Partners in Project Green decided to help them out by starting with manufacturing. Coca Cola uses many barrels to store their Coca Cola syrup. After a little paint, the barrels make perfect planting pots so what the Partners in Project Green decided to do was to donate 50 of them to a local gardening community. Coca Cola provided the transportation so 500 kg of plastic was saved and now the barrels have a new home!

In addition to their projects, Partners in Project Green often hold events all over the GTA to get local communities involved. Their events range from gardening/planting, community restorations, and environmental symposium days! Make sure to sign to one of the events if interested.
