How To Change The Battery In A DSC PC1555

The DSC PC1555 is an alarm system from ADT (manufacturer). It has a backup battery (which looks like this) that allows it to provide security against burglary, emergencies and fire even when there is a power outage.

The battery is typically recharged through the house electricity but it will need replacing every 3-5 years. You will know that there is trouble with the battery when the Trouble light is ON. You will also hear a beeping sound that you can turn off by pressing any key.

Press [*][2] and look for the zone light that indicates the low battery problem. Once confirmed, that means the battery is drained of power. Turn on the AC power to recharge the battery. This will take 1-2 days after which the low battery warning should be gone. If not, that means the battery needs to be replaced.

To replace the battery of the DSC PC1555, follow these steps:

Buy a new battery for DSC PC1555.
Put the alarm system on test mode.
Find the control panel box (in a closet, attic or garage) and open it to access the backup battery.
Remove the old battery by disconnecting the black and red wires from their respective terminals. Disconnect the black wire first before you disconnect the red wire. Use pliers with insulated handles for safety. In case the wires are tight, loosen them by wiggling carefully. BE CAREFUL not to short the battery when you take it from the control panel box.
Remove the plastic covering the new battery. Connect the red wire first to the positive terminal (red) before you connect the black wire to the negative terminal (black).
Close the control panel box.
Look at the keypad display for the low battery message. Allow the new battery to recharge for 24-48 hours. If the warning is still there after the 2nd day, the problem might be with the system. Call your alarm provider.
Recycle the old battery.
