How To Change The Battery In A DSC Power Series PC1616

The DSC Power Series PC1616 is an alarm system manufactured by ADT. It has a backup battery which looks like this. This battery allows it to operate despite a power outage and it automatically recharges when the AC power is on.

You will know that your system’s backup battery is compromised when the Trouble light is ON. You will also hear a beeping sound that you can silence by pressing the [#].

To find out the specific problem, press [*][2]. If the LED or Digit 1 is flashing, press [1] to confirm if it is a low battery problem. If it is, then you know that the backup battery power is already drained. Turn the AC power on to recharge it. If 24-48 hours have passed and the trouble light is still on, you may want to replace your battery. Your backup battery usually requires replacement every 3-5 years.

These are the steps to change the battery of the DSC Power Series PC1616:

Buy a new battery for DSC Power Series PC1616.
Set the system on test mode.
Look for the control panel box in a closet, garage or attic. Open it to access the backup battery.
Disconnect the old battery by removing the wires from the terminals. Start by removing the black wire before the red wire. Wiggle tight wires to loosen them up and use pliers with insulated handles. BE CAREFUL not to short the battery as you remove it.
Take off the plastic terminal protectors before reconnecting the wires. Connect the red wire to the positive red terminal before you connect the black wire to the negative black terminal.
Close the control panel box.
Expect to see that the trouble light will remain until after the replacement battery is installed. Let it charge for the next 24-48 hours. If that time passes and the trouble light is still there, call your alam provider. The problem may already be with the system.
Recycle the old battery.
