Energy Live News reported the results of an exciting survey of United Kingdom business energy preferences. They say 59% of UK businesses “like the idea of producing their own energy,” While a third already have battery storage technologies on their premises. This is exciting news indeed!
UK Businesses Say Money-Saving is the Motivator

This is an interesting motive given the mood in Europe leans strongly towards global interests. Perhaps the fear of a hard Brexit is motivating UK businesses to unlock all possible savings. What do you think is the real reason?
The Energy Live News report adds “businesses in London are … ahead in being aware of renewable energy solutions. With 73% understanding how selling excess energy would work.” However, just 11% of Welsh companies are buying into sustainable solutions. This may be because Wales is largely a service environment with manufacture only contributing 32% of gross value.
UK Business Rates Energy a Top Management Priority

Nearly 60% of UK businesses included in the poll said they rated energy a top priority alongside cyber-security and employment. Paul Sheffield, Chief Operating Officer at Haven Power which ran the survey was clearly delighted with the response.
“We’re encouraged to see that businesses rank energy usage so highly alongside issues such as cybersecurity.” But there is still work we need to do, he added. “The research showed that 24% of large businesses only have contact with their supplier when there is a problem. Despite putting energy usage as one of their top business priorities.”
He was particularly alarmed that 8% of UK businesses still only speak to their suppliers about their bills. We agree with him they should discuss their options regarding energy with their providers. The latter have pressure from the UK government to advance the cause of renewables. This surely must be a joint effort.
