A UK businessman may have carried the novel coronavirus to Europe unknowlingly and in all innocence. We publish this story as a case study only, and we say at outset any one of us could have done the same thing inadvertently. So how could one person spread the European virus? The answer is, in all innocence.

There’s a Lesson in This for Us All

We all need to take precautions, now that novel coronavirus is an established fact. If we have a runny nose or a cough, it’s our duty to our fellow citizens to wear a face mask.

The businessman attended a conference at Singapore Grand Hyatt Hotel from January 20 to 22, 2020. Some of the 94 foreigners staying there were from Hubei province. Three people at the conference developed virus symptoms after they returned home to Malaysia and Singapore. When the businessman went on holiday afterwards, his unknown infection caused health officials to ask could one person spread the European virus that way?

Could One Person Spread the European Virus? Perhaps …

The businessman took a short holiday to relax after the Singapore conference. First, he traveled via Geneva to spend four nights at a lodge in Les Contamines-Montjoie, in France. He stayed in a chalet for four days he shared with 11 other British nationals. He then flew back to his home near Brighton, England where he recovered from the clinical symptoms.

Five of the other ten people at the Les Contamines-Montjoie lodge tested positive in Britain later. One of these was a nine-year-old boy who attended local schools. The French national health agency subsequently confirmed no direct infections. As of February 10, 2020 there were 11 confirmed novel coronavirus cases in France. There was another, single linked case in Spain.

Next time you wonder could one person spread the European virus the correct answer is yes. And it could be you or me if we have it, and we aren’t aware of it or ignore it.
