Ontario is one of the 10 provinces of Canada, and borders on the United States to the south. Over 13 million people live within its limits, of which 2.7 million are in the nation’s capital city Toronto. The state is on high alert to stop the new coronavirus spreading. Authorities there release a daily report on the state of Covid-19 virus in Ontario.

The Current State of Covid-19 Virus in Ontario

The early signs of the new coronavirus that started in Hubei, China are similar to the flu. These may include fever and cough, and are similar to other respiratory infections, including influenza. The Health Ministry is testing individuals displaying these signs, even though they know most will be negative as is currently the case.

The province has tested 364 people thus far as part of a program to monitor the state of Covid-19 virus in Ontario. Of these, 353 confirmed negative and 2 positive, while a further 8 are still being investigated. One person is no longer infected.

A Brief Update on the Nature of the Viral Disease

There are a large variety of coronaviruses. Some cause normal colds. Others have more serious impacts like bronchitis, pneumonia or severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS). They mainly spread through person-to-person contact. This contact may occur at home, a place of work, or even a health care center.

Individual patients do not all react the same way to the new Covid-19 virus. Young, healthy people may just have a bad cold, while older people may have weakened immune systems. Therefore older people with chronic diseases including, for example, diabetes, cancer, heart, renal or chronic lung disease need to take extra precautions.

The state of Covid-19 virus in Ontario is therefore positive. The Health Ministry appears to have things under control at the time of writing. It must remain vigilant at all times.

I work from home where I ponder on the future of the planet, and what lies beyond in the great hereafter. Sometimes I step out of my computer into the silent riverine forests, and empty golden beaches for which the area is renowned. Richard
