There are signs of generally good progress at Travis Air Force Base and Marine Corps Air Station Miramar. So far there’s only been one new positive test result and that person is recovering at a Miramar hospital.  All the remaining 345 U.S. Diamond Princess passengers should complete their quarantine this week.

Returning the U.S. Diamond Princess Passengers to the Community

“It is important to know these people releasing from quarantine pose no health risk to the surrounding community. Nor to the communities they will be returning to,” says Jason McDonald from Centers for Disease Control.

Earlier arrivals are no longer in quarantine while later batches have to sit it out a few days longer. Meanwhile healthy people on the cruise ship, including remaining U.S. Diamond Princess passengers are nearing the end of their coronavirus quarantine. José Andrés created World Central Kitchen chef to feed Caribbean people during natural disasters. Now he has set up a field kitchen at the quay side to provide food to the quarantine ship.

This Relieves Pressure on Kitchen Staff Says Twitterer Passenger

U.S. passenger Matthew Smith twittered this would help crew observe quarantine rules. This is a new situation for us, says World Central Kitchen’s Sam Bloch. First they prepare and cook the food in a conventional central kitchen, he told NPR News. Then it goes to the field kitchen for reheating as and when needed.

Finally, a forklift delivers the piping hot food to Diamond Princess at mealtimes. This gives the crew a welcome opportunity to rest. It strikes us that the news has been all about the passengers until now, while the crew must go about their normal duties including taking food to individual staterooms.

We believe they will turn out to be the unsung heroes of this incident. Many won’t be paid that much because they are youngsters on working passages to exotic destinations.
