It’s become important for all the people in a family bubble to assume the worst from COVID. Take the elderly couple whose tale CNN unveiled on December 30, 2020. They were married nearly six decades, and knew each other a while longer. And then, despite an abundance of caution a haircut at home, ended 60 years of happiness.
How a Haircut at Home Ended 60 Years of Happiness
The elderly couple did all the right things to avoid contracting COVID-19. They sacrificed their tradition of hosting big, traditional family gatherings. They phone-chatted and video-conferenced even with family living nearby. However, one day the husband decided he could not wait any longer for a haircut.
He asked his daughter, who works in a hair salon to pop by their apartment and trim his hair. Prior to that, she had taken a test which rated her negative, and quarantined for four days. They took all precautions they could think of, including wearing masks and sitting next to an open window. The next day, the daughter started showing COVID-19 signs.
How the Family Tragedy Rolled Forward to Two Deaths
The elderly wife was admitted to hospital a few days afterwards with COVID symptoms, but discharged the same week. Two days later she was back again, this time on a ventilator. Her husband kept his distance throughout, but admitted to hospital a week later where he too went on a ventilator.
His wife died the following day. He himself passed away nine days later never knowing how her life ended. ‘I think the thing that gives us peace is knowing that my dad didn’t know my mom passed away,’ their son told a reporter. All it took was a simple choice after months of caution. A choice they thought was safe, until a haircut at home ended 60 years of happiness.
