Boosting Our Immune System While Sheltering

Boosting our immune system while sheltering, strengthens our defenses against diseases including Covid-19. This is something we ought to consider carefully, especially if circumstances deprive us of our daily dose of sunshine. That’s because we disturb the 24-hour cycle of dark and sunlight on which our bodies depend to feed their systems.

Strengthening Our Lungs against Respiratory Infections

Sun tanning on a golden beach does more than create the appearance of glowing health. UVB exposure also produces Vitamin D in our skin. This does more than promote stronger bones and teeth too. We are also boosting our immune system against Covid-19 unless we are sheltering inside, and that’s very important.

This is because we have things called macrophages in our lungs. These white blood cells overwhelm and consume cancer cells, cellular debris, foreign substances, microbes, and anything else unhealthy. They constantly patrol for pathogens and have an important role in immune reactions. Moreover, Vitamin D is the strength behind their deadly antimicrobial power.

Vitamin D Not Only Boosting Our Immune Systems

The Irish Medical Journal is of the opinion Vitamin D deficiencies have a bearing on the severity of Covid-19 infections. Moreover, they may have an influence on the mortality rate too. Researchers at Trinity College, Dublin produced data that populations in Spain and Italy have the lowest rates of Vitamin D in Europe.

That’s because their lighter skins need more sun exposure to manufacture sufficient, and this offsets the benefits of their sunny climes especially when sheltering inside. However, the researchers don’t necessarily recommend simply taking Vitamin D supplements. That’s because light exercise in sunshine amplifies the benefits of this natural system.

There’s also a cross-link to stress reaction, according to Linda Geddes in BBC Future. Taking light exercise in a park, or a garden lowers heart rates and blood pressure too. Boosting our immune system while sheltering does not have to be a drudge or an extra expense. It could simply turn out to be one of life’s pleasures.

About Author

I have been writing about batteries and energy storage for more than ten years, and have published over 4,000 articles on this website. During that time, I have researched developments across lead-acid, lithium-ion, sodium-ion, flow batteries, and emerging energy-storage technologies. My goal is to explain complex battery concepts in clear, practical language that anyone can understand. My writing career began unexpectedly after leaving the corporate world. What started as a search for a new direction gradually became a fascination with batteries, renewable energy, and the science that powers modern life. Writing may not have made me wealthy, but it has given me the opportunity to explore an industry that continues to evolve in remarkable ways.
