According to the Paris Agreement Tracker, Canada accounts for 1.95% of the global greenhouse gases. While that is nothing compared to the 20% emissions of China, it is still important for Canada to make changes as it is a developed and influencing country. It is also one with many resources and the capability of making significant changes to its economy and resources. The government understands that which is why by 2018, they are hoping to increase the number of electric vehicles (which produce 0 emissions) by a significant amount.

Transportation accounts for 24% of Canada’s GHG emissions and the government wants to decrease that as at the moment, only 1 out of 100 cars is electric! With the new zero-emissions plan, officials hope to change the current statistics through details they will reveal in 2018.

First Electric Vehicle Show

In May, Montreal hosted the first ever Canadian Electric Vehicle show. That is a step in the right direction for EV’s future! The show featured 60 exhibits for electric cars, bikes, boats…etc! The speakers at the show included the mayor of Montreal, Denis Coderre, who also emphasized the need for electric vehicles and EV charging stations! He hopes by the end of the year to have AT LEAST 400 charging stations in Montreal. Having these stations easily accessible would help making Electric bikes more attractive for the public!
