We are grateful Dr. Anthony Fauci stuck to his post through the tough times, and is still with us. He has steered America through several epidemics since his career began in the 1950’s. No wonder he has been at every president’s side since Ronald Reagan. When Dr. Fauci looks intensely at the UK variant COVID-19 strain VOC-202012-01, we know he will tell us the truth. And that truth thankfully does not appear to be as worrisome as we feared.
Dr. Fauci Looks Intensely at The UK Variant: Says Keep Taking Care
Dr. Fauci endorsed the assessment of U.S. health officials, according to AP News on December 27, 2020. Their conclusion is the coronavirus mutation setting off alerts in parts of Britain is not that much cause for extra concern. Sure, we have to take it seriously, they say. But it is no more likely to cause serious illness than the one we already have. Or be any more resistant to the vaccines rolling out in North America.
Does it cause someone to become more ill? AP News asked. Is it a more serious problem in terms of aggressiveness? Not so, according to reports from the United Kingdom. But we still need to be careful according to Dr. Fauci. And the U.S. is following up on this with its own studies.
The Watchword Must Be To Continue to Take Care
America is ‘at a critical phase of the pandemic, with the worst probably still ahead,’ according to Dr. Fauci as reported by AP News. The vaccine is on its way for front-line workers, and older people. And also ‘certain other segments of the public’ given priority for the vaccines.
The ‘general population’ will therefore have to wait as long as ‘late March or early April’ for its jabs. Meanwhile, health resources are under increasing strain. The noblest thing we can do is avoid becoming infected for the sake of the community, and stay safe. While Dr. Fauci looks intensely at the UK variant with the thoroughness we trust.
