High Potent Nanobodies Neutralize the Virus

Researchers in Göttingen Lower Saxony, Germany claim a breakthrough that could stop the coronavirus in its tracks.  Their report (link below) has been through the peer review process, but still needs final copy editing and proofreading. Nonetheless, the words ‘may allow for simplified production of vaccines’ and ‘their adaptation to viral escape-mutations’ are significant. So how would the high potent nanobodies neutralize the virus then?

They Would Bind and Neutralize the Virus 1,000 Times Faster

The scientists wrapped their report in technology we found difficult to fathom. We therefore decided to turn to Sci Tech Daily for help. They reminded us how antibodies attach to viruses, and dis empower them so they are harmless. These antibodies may develop naturally in response to an infection, or as a reaction to a virus. However, doctors can also implant them in seriously ill patients as medication.

But, the big advantage of high potent nanobodies is they neutralize the virus much faster. The Göttingen researchers also optimized them for stability, and resistance to extreme heat. Their antibodies thus appear promising agents to treat the SARS-CoV-2 virus, and its variants too.

When Could the High Potent Nanobodies Start Neutralizing the Virus?

The Göttingen researchers believe their nanobodies ‘unite all the properties required for a potent drug against COVID-19’. They also show high efficacy against Alpha, Beta, Gamma, and Delta mutants in their laboratory. Moreover, they are breathable, and ‘might remain active in the body long enough to be effective’.

However, commercial development, testing and approval could take a year to complete. Therefore, we  have to wait patiently while the pandemic clock keeps ticking. However, Sci Tech Daily gave us a few words of encouragement. They assured us the medication could be inexpensive, and practical in developing countries with little infrastructure.

I work from home where I ponder on the future of the planet, and what lies beyond in the great hereafter. Sometimes I step out of my computer into the silent riverine forests, and empty golden beaches for which the area is renowned. Richard
