The 8th International Greentech & Eco Products Exhibition & Conference Malaysia (IGEM 2017) took place on the 11-13th of October in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. It was officiated by The Minister of Energy, Green Technology and Water, Dr. Maximus Johnity Ongkili. We’ve already written a post about IGEM detailing the expectations for the event. However, this time around, but we wanted to bring more details to the actual days of the event.

The conference was the setting for the unveiling of the Green Technology Master Plan (GTMP) which outlines Malaysia’s strategic plans for green technology development to create a low-carbon and resource efficient economy. The aim for this plan is to have a revenue of RM180 Billion and 200k jobs in sustainable energy by 2030.
Moreover, the exhibition floor at the event had around 250 booths highlight the newest and latest green innovations in developing sustainable cities. The Green Energy zone had some of the industry’s leading companies present at the event. This included Jinko Solar, First Solar, Hanwha Q Cells, JA Solar, Trina Solar and Huawei. Additionally, The Green Transport zone displayed the latest sustainable transport innovations from leading automotive manufacturers including Volvo, Honda and BYD Auto.
As the focus of the event was on Youth, many students from various institutions attended and got hands on experience through many programs. One was the Karival inovasi Teknologi Hijau 2017.

A three-day programme designed for students to experience learning about sustainable energy and technologies through competitions, challenges and quizzes. Some of the challenges were the Green Cooker Challenge, Inovasi Tenaga Biojisim, Green Technology Show, Solar Vehicle Challenge, Green Technology Quiz and Xplorace. This event hosted 320 secondary school students from across Malaysia
According to the Chief Executive Officer, Amin Abdullah, the Karnival Inovasi Teknologi Hijau 2017, was a tremendous success! The event aimed to inspire enthusiasm about green technology in students. They appear to have done just that!
