In-Store Phone Charging Streaks Ahead

While lithium-ion batteries are great when phones are new, their capacity gradually withers like yesterday’s spring flowers. To date, the retail industry has been unhelpful to customers whose phones go flat by lunchtime. From what we read in Denver Post, in-store phone charging is taking off like SpaceX.

In-Store Phone Charging at ChargeItSpot

ChargeItSpot profits from the assumption that customer conversion rates go up the longer customers are in a store. It claims its product increases dwell time 2.15 times, and basket size grows by 29%. Of course, the smartphone owner could walk out the store and come back later to fetch it. Despite this, with clever merchandising they say in-store phone charging increases the overall conversion rate by 54%.

Could this Be a Counter for Internet Trading?

Brick and mortar needs innovative ways to reach out to customers to counter the pizazz on the web. ChargeItSpot claims 140 retailers have already signed up. In addition, it  has stations at casinos, hospitals, and sports stadiums too. It recently added a voluntary customer survey to the package the venues pay for. Surprisingly, over 70% of customers answered three multiple-choice questions regarding the store during the pilot phase.

How In-Store Phone Charging Works in Practice

  • The customer enters their mobile number and selects a security image
  • They plug their phone into an available locker and close the door
  • When they return after a suitable period they unlock the door with their codes
  • After retrieving their phone, they have the option of completing the survey

The service provider has 24/7 phone support. This includes capability to release locker doors remotely for customers that forget their number or security image. The service is free to them although they may end up with a spontaneous purchase, which is the underlying idea. The in-store phone charging station delivers power according to the phone manufacturer’s specification. Work on about 1% per minute. Plenty of time to shop.
