We understand there is fierce competition for the lucrative COVID vaccine market. However, if we had hoped this would not include fake news on social media, then we were wrong. A breaking news post tells of large sums on money on the table to bad-mouth the Pfizer vaccine in France. We publish what we know of this mystery anti-Pfizer campaign in the public interest.
A ‘Colossal Budget’ Promised to Léo Grasset
French YouTuber and social influencer Léo Grasset reveals an intermediary for an anonymous source offered him a ‘colossal budget’. This was spending money for posting negative publicity about the Pfizer vaccine to his 1.7 million followers. ‘Present the material as your own independent view’, the email instructed. ‘And avoid using ‘such words as advertising or sponsored video’.
We salute Léo Grasset for blowing the whistle if this is indeed true. But unfortunately the allegation of the mystery anti-Pfizer campaign appears to be just that. Moreover, the anonymous source has contacted several other French social media influencers in the health and science fields too.
It asked them spread a false claim that the death rate among those vaccinated by Pfizer is almost three times higher. Than among those who have received AstraZeneca vaccine. French Health Minister Olivier Véran did not mince his words. ‘It is pathetic, it is dangerous, it is irresponsible,’ he said. ‘And it does not work.’
How Best to Respond to the Mystery Anti-Pfizer Campaign
We recommend staying away from the debate that ‘this-or-that-country’ is behind this attempted character assassination. We should cling to the sources we trust. And hear the advice of our trusted authorities. We should not allow this despicable allegation to take root in our minds. That’s because if we allow it to do so, then we have handed control back to the pandemic.
