Renewable Energy and We Must Pull Together

Renewable energy is not something the government is going to do for us. Renewable energy and we, you and I must pull together like a well matched pair of horses. Because if we don’t support the idea, the carbon lobby will strive to slow progress and they may succeed. We dedicate this post to how we, the green home owner can make the difference.

The Struggle Between Dirty Carbon and Clean Renewable Energy

North America has an energy mix comprising carbon-based and renewable resources. This is proving stubborn to unpick.  Carbon based fuel consumes the legacy of ancient plants in the form of coal, oil, peat etc. And it releases the stored carbon into the atmosphere adding to global warming.

Renewable power, on the other hand takes energy from natural resources including sun, wind, tide and gravity. It transforms this energy, but it does not destroy it. That’s why we say it is renewable and sustains. But this knowledge is far from new. We have had storage dams and windmills for a long time.

We should have been relying of renewable energy for decades already. But we did not pull together with sustainable energy back then.  We were far too much in love with our autos and jet planes. Although our lead acid batteries were waiting patiently because they knew their time would come.

We, You and I and Renewable Energy Must Pull Together

We should purchase our electricity from green utilities. Even though some of their electrons will be dirty at this stage, at least they get the sales commission and can grow. And secondly, we should fight with every breath in our bodies to oppose the tweets claiming global warming is not for real. Climate change is upon us! Look around you.

COVID-19 and climate change may together represent the greatest challenge humanity ever faced. Our ancestors trusted the wind to fill their sails and grind their corn. While faithful solar energy brought their crops to fruition. This decade should belong to renewable energy, as storage batteries open new frontiers.

I tripped over a shrinking bank balance and fell into the writing gig unintentionally. This was after I escaped the corporate world and searched in vain for ways to become rich on the internet by doing nothing. Despite the fact that writing is no recipe for wealth, I rather enjoy it. I will not deny I am obsessed with it when I have the time. I live in Margate on the Kwazulu-Natal south coast of South Africa. I work from home where I ponder on the future of the planet, and what lies beyond in the great hereafter. Sometimes I step out of my computer into the silent riverine forests, and empty golden beaches for which the area is renowned. Richard
