Western scientists have been pushing hard to be first out the gate with a COVID nasal vaccine. That’s because nose passages are the viruses’ chosen focus of attack, and it makes sense to be where the action is. However, this time the Russian nasal vaccine seems to be leading the pack. With the wily Russian leader center stage of marketing.

President Vladimir Putin Trials Russian Nasal Vaccine.

The Russian leader had a booster shot on November 24, 2021 because, as he said his immunity had been waning. He also appeared to double up by joining a local nasal vaccine trial the same day. He described the experience as feeling nothing, as a syringe sprayed the liquid vaccine up his nostrils.

‘That was all,’ he told assembled media. ‘I didn’t feel anything. Nothing. Today, after those two procedures, I already did some sport in the morning.’ Russian authorities told Reuters shortly afterwards how they were planning to export the nasal form of their Sputnik COVID vaccine.

Provisional Plans for Roll Out of Sputnik V Vaccine

Kirill Dmitriev heads Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) which invested in Sputnik V, and markets it overseas. He expects to start exporting the Russian nasal vaccine to ‘other countries’ in 2022.

However, World Health Organization WHO, and European Medicines Agency have yet to approve the Sputnik product which could prove an impediment. But there are plans, according to Reuters for a WHO delegation to visit Russia some time in December 2021.

There is talk of WHO approval of Sputnik V being in the pipeline. Such approval would mark a significant breakthrough for both the vaccine, and its nasal derivative. Recent trials in San Marino, north-central Italy showed Sputnik V ‘was 80% effective six to eight months after inoculation’, again according to Reuters news.
