Swarm Intelligence Helps EV’s Go Extra Miles

Artificial intelligence is machines thinking like humans, but a whole lot faster. Swarm intelligence is harnessing multiple machines like a committee of bots. We’ll leave that thought as our brain is swarming, oops spinning, and get back to our favorite topic: batteries. On July 9, 2019, Digital Trends reported Bosch is using this new super intelligence to make EV batteries last longer.

Bosch Swarm Intelligence Helps City Parking Too

Motorists in central London (and other major cities) can spend up to a third of their time looking for parking spaces. The city mayor is engaging Bosch to create a central swarming point where bots in cars report open spaces.

Self-driving electric cars will soon be able to tap directly into the data and head for the nearest place to park. For a while longer, slower human intelligence will have to follow up on the gap. Nonetheless, EV batteries will last longer in city areas. Swarm intelligence should also significantly reduce carbon emissions from old-fashioned gasoline-power autos.

Now Bosch is Building a Swarm of EV Batteries

Bosch could have its hand in the money jar soon, if it finds a way to extend battery life per charge. Tech Crunch announced the same day the company has launched a cloud-connected battery management system.

A senior executive told their reporter “The new connectivity will enable companies to remotely monitor and manage battery status to reduce wear and tear on the batteries by up to 20%”. Moreover, the swarm intelligence will help understand how battery charging rate and driver behavior relate to battery performance.

Chinese ride-hailing colossus DIDI has already signed for the system to manage its fleet in Xiamen. Powerful batteries with long service lives should definitely make electro-mobility more viable, so this new technology is definitely one to note in the diary.
