On August 3, 2019 the Guardian newspaper predicted the end of British holidays in Spain. Could this mean a mass return of Brits to ‘grimy England’ post Brexit? However, we are more interested in knowing will climate change end America’s summer holidays in sunny Cannes? Does this mean we must explore the fading glories of Britain, or visit China instead?
Will Climate Change End American Trips to Spain

We have become accustomed to climate change debate in America. Did warming cause that hurricane, is climate change responsible for that drought, and so on. However, when we splash out on a European holiday we expect everything to be just as before.
Journalist Patrick Collinson says this is no longer the case. He advises, “With heatwaves and rising prices on the continent, the UK now looks a much better bet”. Why is this so and is the climate change permanent? A waitress told the reporter “We used to get maybe a few days like this in August every year. I have no idea why you want to come here in this heat.”
Could This Mean the End of the European Summer Tan?
Europeans are starting to wonder when will climate change end. How soon can we go back to the old traditional ways of doing things, they hope? Even if the world were to change to zero-carbon overnight, it could take a decade for us to feel any respite.

Europe is experiencing these effects faster than most other regions because it has the vast Sahara Desert at its feet. The Mediterranean Sea provided a moisture barrier until now. Will climate change end this natural system permanently? The Spanish have a new expression ‘Seis meses invierno, seis meses infierno’. This means ‘six months of winter, six months of hell’.
We have seen reports of Londoners looking forward to a Barcelona climate by 2050. However, by the time that arrives polar ice may have buried some of their historic pubs underwater.
