Our mental health is in good shape when we are functioning at a satisfactory level of emotional and behavioral adjustment. Satisfactory of course depends on the circumstances we face. If we let Covid 19 push us down we could experience worry, anxiety or even fear. This is not a good state to be in. So how do we go about maintaining our mental health during Covid 19?

Information Key to Maintaining Our Mental Health During Covid 19

Being concerned about the spread of the virus is a natural reaction. Unfortunately there are people who trade on this response. They may try to spam us by offering fake medications and ‘secret remedies’ as has been happening down the years. They may also be trolls out to have a good time at our emotional expense.

The World Health Organization published a document on dealing with stress during the outbreak. It provides these tips for maintaining our mental health during Covid 19.

1… Don’t read, listen to or watch news that makes you feel worried or stressed

2… Look for practical ways to prepare and protect your self and your loved ones

3… Catch up on news at specific times of the day so you don’t feel bombarded

The Roots of Anxiety are Worrying About an Unknown Future

There’s a vast amount of information on social media waiting to swirl around in our heads. A large amount of this is sensationally chasing comments and likes. It’s wiser to follow authority websites like Centers for Disease Control and World Health Organization we can trust. Their contributors are scientists following the truth.

Doing something positive is the secret to maintaining our mental health during Covid 19. Stay in touch with friends on video and chat. Wash your hands regularly, keep distancing, and wear a face mask in public if you agree that’s a good idea. Don’t let your anxiety conjure up irrational fear. Stay steadfast to your values and beliefs. Occupy yourself doing sensible things.

I tripped over a shrinking bank balance and fell into the writing gig unintentionally. This was after I escaped the corporate world and searched in vain for ways to become rich on the internet by doing nothing. Despite the fact that writing is no recipe for wealth, I rather enjoy it. I will not deny I am obsessed with it when I have the time. I live in Margate on the Kwazulu-Natal south coast of South Africa. I work from home where I ponder on the future of the planet, and what lies beyond in the great hereafter. Sometimes I step out of my computer into the silent riverine forests, and empty golden beaches for which the area is renowned. Richard
