Don’t Drop Your Guard On the COVID Yet

Don’t drop your guard on the COVID yet, researchers warn. Pfizer and BioNTech have announced great trial results, but there’s still more work to be done. Meanwhile the pandemic is raging on, with more force than ever before. And even when we have the vaccine it won’t be 100% effective. We will still stand a 10% chance of contracting the virus, and it could still cause us grievous harm.

More Work to Do – Don’t Drop Your Guard On the COVID Yet

Ninety percent of the 22,000 people who received the vaccine developed immune antibodies. However, ninety four of these became ill according to New York Times, while the rest showed no reaction. But we don’t yet know how long that immunity lasts, and whether an infected person could still pass on the virus.

It could also take up to a year to manufacture, and distribute sufficient doses to have a meaningful effect.  Until that point, the virus will continue to rage on unless we all start taking protective measures seriously. Then there’s also the question of who gets the vaccine first. These are likely to be emergency workers, and elderly people who ironically mostly already take those precautions.

North Americans Should Keep their Coronavirus Shields Up

Our governments can’t compel their citizens to wear face masks, socially distance, and so on. It doesn’t help either when some media create the impression the worst is over. But we can suggest you don’t drop your guard on the COVID yet, because the worst may still be on its way.

Please take another look at the graphic at the top of this post. Then extend the trend in your mind as to how it will evolve while the vaccine rolls out. And when it comes knocking on your door will you accept the hope, even temporary it offers and take it? No, we dare not drop our virus guard for a long time, perhaps indeed for ever.

I work from home where I ponder on the future of the planet, and what lies beyond in the great hereafter. Sometimes I step out of my computer into the silent riverine forests, and empty golden beaches for which the area is renowned. Richard
