How America Will Get Its COVID Vaccines

Vaccine shots will be free to citizens, although providers may charge for administering them. The government will pick up the bill for individuals who do not have health insurance. The pressure is building as 2,000 to 3,000 people die from the virus every day. We have reached the point where we need to know how America will get its COVID vaccines.

The Process Won’t Be Much Different from a Flu Shot.

John Hopkins vaccine expert Dr. William Moss told NBC News the Moderna and Pfizer vaccines are 95% effective. To his mind, the ‘vast majority’ of the remaining 5% will probably have a ‘mild illness’ if infected. ‘I think we could live with that,’ he said. By comparison, the flu vaccine is around 40% effective according to NBC News.

The initial policy is likely to be ‘what is available is what you get’. However, by the time most adults receive their vaccination, there could be four or five to choose from. The Johnson & Johnson one may become the most available according to some experts. That’s because it is a single shot that stores at normal clinical conditions. Much like the flu vaccine in terms of delivery.

How America Will Get Its COVID Vaccines: Practical Issues

Therefore, the COVID vaccine will probably roll out much as flu shots do. Walgreens, CVS Health, Walmart, and others may distribute it, in addition to mobile clinics. However, there are limitations some of us may need to consider:

1… Children can’t have the current vaccines. They were not included in the trials

2… Pregnant women were also excluded from the trials. Speak to your doctor or gynecologist for more information

Rolling out the serum is a massive logistical task. There could be temporary shortages of vaccines, syringes and gloves. We have come a long way together on this. Now we have assurance America will get its COVID vaccines we must be patient a while longer. And we must never, ever drop our guard against airborne infections again.
