Having the vaccination against COVID really is the decent thing to do. We can continue working and driving the economy forward, while keeping hospital beds available for others. Now scientists in Israel have proven we are also less likely to affect family members in our households. Knowing vaccinated folk are less likely to share COVID really is wonderful news.
The Benefits Are Even Greater When We Vaccinate
The researchers at Chaim Sheba Medical Center in Tel Aviv did their mathematical modelling in households from December 2020 to April 2021. Their results thus derive from people with the Pfizer vaccine when the Alpha variant predominated. However, there is no reason to believe other vaccines should not produce similar results.
The Jerusalem Post reported July 18, 2021 vaccinated families are 50% less likely to share infections if one member becomes ill. And, as we already know, the symptoms are likely to be milder and not involve going to hospital. And that’s not all to the finding vaccinated folk are less likely to share COVID.
The risk is just 4% of this happening, as opposed to a 57% chance of getting it from an unvaccinated family member. However, we should note those factors depend on the age of the vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals, and the time they spend together too. But if infected family members isolate, then the possibility of cross infection falls by 80% to 90%.
Vaccinated Folk Also Less Likely to Share COVID in Groups
Prof. Gili Regev-Yochay who led the research says. ‘The findings of this study reinforce findings from previous studies conducted at Sheba. These indicate that vaccinated people not only get infected less, but they also infect others less.’
At this stage it must be said we don’t know how these results might vary in the presence of the more infectious Delta variant. None the less it seems logical Prof. Gili Regev-Yochay is correct when she says, ‘Vaccination … is the only effective way to reduce the pandemic. And return to routine life alongside the coronavirus.
