COVID-19 Secrets We Still Have To Unravel

Ask almost anybody about the future of COVID, and they will have definite opinions. However, the future is sill unsure according to posts in Journal Nature and Stat News. That’s because the health, medicine, and life sciences journals believe there are COVID-19 secrets we still have to unravel. We can’t do that here, but at least we can explain what some of them are.

5 COVID-19 Secrets We Still Have To Unravel

1… WHY DO SYMPTOMS VARY SO MUCH? Scientists have been searching for clues. They suspect a few rare genes cause more severe symptoms. It’s also becoming clearer vaccination PLUS infection is a better defense than either of them, but we don’t know why this is so.

2… WHICH WAY WILL THE VIRUS EVOLVE? Virus mutations are random, but at the same time natural selection ensures the strongest version survives. The virus exists to replicate itself in new hosts. We may need to modify our vaccines, but we don’t know in which direction.

3… WILL THERE BE MORE LOCK DOWNS? Lock downs are increasingly unpopular, and are triggering social unrest in some quarters. But there may come a time when we have to mandate (at least) face masks again. We don’t know whether populations will cooperate, and what happens if they do not.

4… WHERE DOES THE VIRUS COME FROM? We still don’t know for sure where the coronavirus came from, although there are theories. If it were an animal, then the original virus would have to be 99% similar to the human coronavirus. We don’t know the source.  This leaves us wide open to another pandemic.

5… HOW DOES THE VIRUS TRANSMIT? We still do not fully understand individual sharing. The transmission routes are blurred. Did two people share the virus because they were close by, or did they use the same phone? These are not the only COVID-19 secrets we still have to unravel. We should keep an open mind.

I tripped over a shrinking bank balance and fell into the writing gig unintentionally. This was after I escaped the corporate world and searched in vain for ways to become rich on the internet by doing nothing. Despite the fact that writing is no recipe for wealth, I rather enjoy it. I will not deny I am obsessed with it when I have the time. I live in Margate on the Kwazulu-Natal south coast of South Africa. I work from home where I ponder on the future of the planet, and what lies beyond in the great hereafter. Sometimes I step out of my computer into the silent riverine forests, and empty golden beaches for which the area is renowned. Richard
