The following advisory may affect you, if you purchased solar batteries between April 2017 and December 2019. However, we must emphasize from the beginning that this is just a selective solar battery recall, and there is nothing amiss with the core technology. The alert only affects particular batches of LG-branded and non-branded batteries sold in Australia.

What Happened to Cause the Selective Solar Battery Recall?

We append a link to the post by Product Safety Australia below, although we provide a brief overview in this post too. The original review notice was dated February 25, 2021, but the consumer watchdog has now extended it.

LG Energy Solution Australia Pty Ltd (formerly LG Chem Australia Pty Ltd) supplied the batteries as part of a residential energy solar system. The objective was to empower homeowners to capture and store energy from solar panels. The ESS Home Batteries have unique serial numbers making them easier to identify.

Which Models Are Included in the Battery Recall?

The individual cells in the suspect batteries were manufactured between March 29, 2017, and September 13, 2018. The assembled batteries sold in Australia from May 15, 2017 onward.

LG-BRANDED SYSTEMS AFFECTED:

  • RESU 3.3, RESU 6.5, RESU 10, RESU 13
  • RESU 7H Type-R, RESU 10H Type-C,
  • RESU 10H Type-R, RESU 10H Type-R (Secondary)

NON LG-BRANDED SYSTEMS AFFECTED:

  • S/A Gen2 1P (EM048063P3S4)
  • S/A Gen2 2P (EM048126P3S7)
  • S/A Gen2 1P (EM048063P3S5)

The non-branded systems in the selective solar battery recall include the following:

  • SolaX Power Station, SolaX X-Cabinet, Opal Storage,
  • Redback SH5000, Red Earth Sunrise, Red Earth Drop Bear,
  • Eguana Evolve, and VARTA Pulse Neo in generic cabinets.

Recalled solar batteries must be switched off immediately, before contacting LG Energy Solution Australia on 1300 677 273, or by email to productau@lgensol.com. The company will supply controlling software, and compensate consumers. Proven defective batteries will be replaced free of charge, or removed and refunded.
