Hat-Trick of Batteries to Celebrate Roundly

A hat-trick, Wikipedia says, is the achievement of a generally positive feat three times in a match. Although we previously thought it referred to bowling three batsmen out with three balls in the name of cricket. That said, by way of introduction, we decided to award a hat-trick of batteries to our industry for remarkable achievements over a century.

Hat-Trick of Batteries for a Little Magic

There is much to be said for a little mystery in our hum-drum world, where artificial intelligence seems to be taking our thinking away. Most folk have little idea how a shiny battery casing produces electricity-on-demand, or how we can put the electricity back either.

We never cease imagining ions shuttling back and forth in our batteries, although we never actually saw this in real time. So well done to batteries for keeping our devices going so faithfully, even though what you do is still partly ‘behind the veil’.

Three Cheers for Being So Versatile

You never really know where you are with elves, mountain spirits, and pixies, if they exist at all. Yet despite this, these creatures continue to fascinate us, including in some blockbuster movies. Batteries don’t claim center stage like that. They quietly continue with their work of energizing our devices.

But perhaps the most amazing thing of all is the versatility of their technology. Batteries power spaceships, energize probes in the depth of the oceans, and more. Every time a need arises, a new battery type emerges to meet that need.

How Practicality Brings Home the Hat-Trick

Most technologies emerge, grow, and then peak before another one seizes their space. But not batteries!  Our third hat-trick of batteries is simply because basic battery technology has not changed since it emerged over a century ago. How’s that for batteries! We figure they bowled the competition out!

I tripped over a shrinking bank balance and fell into the writing gig unintentionally. This was after I escaped the corporate world and searched in vain for ways to become rich on the internet by doing nothing. Despite the fact that writing is no recipe for wealth, I rather enjoy it. I will not deny I am obsessed with it when I have the time. I live in Margate on the Kwazulu-Natal south coast of South Africa. I work from home where I ponder on the future of the planet, and what lies beyond in the great hereafter. Sometimes I step out of my computer into the silent riverine forests, and empty golden beaches for which the area is renowned. Richard
