A Whole New World of Batteries

There was a whole new world of batteries waiting for us, when we googled our favorite keyword, which we’ll share on another day. Petero Wamala opened our eyes further to a future world of batteries filling us with wonder.

Whereas the folk at Lipower Group had their feet more on the ground, with fresh thinking about making lithium-ion batteries last longer. The world of batteries is changing around us. We help you stay in touch.

A New Way to Help Batteries Last Longer

Our youngsters grew up in the knowledge of the 20 – 80 rule. That insight informs us to keep lithium-ion state-of-charge between 20% and 80%. This is because beyond those points lies a stress zone, where these batteries wear out sooner.

But Lipower Group opened our eyes to an extension to this theory. They debated whether the actual economy zone is between 40% and 80%. This has to do with reducing voltage stress and chemical degradation.

The key to understanding this approach is that, something like us, lithium-ion batteries prefer to be in a state of equilibrium. The further we take them away from that point, the more stressed they become.

Back to The Future In a New World

Petero Wamala writing in Medium, was in a more philosophical mood, when we googled. Batteries have quietly become more important, he believes, because they store infinite possibilities for the future.

They already help us commute through traffic, he begins. But they could also help us do more work, or connect to someone on the far side of the planet. However, there is a downside to this, Petero believes, because batteries cause us anxiety as they run down.

In the longer run, batteries will play an infinitely more important role than just power our electric cars. We can foresee a whole new future world of batteries, where they help us turn the tide of climate extinction.

I tripped over a shrinking bank balance and fell into the writing gig unintentionally. This was after I escaped the corporate world and searched in vain for ways to become rich on the internet by doing nothing. Despite the fact that writing is no recipe for wealth, I rather enjoy it. I will not deny I am obsessed with it when I have the time. I live in Margate on the Kwazulu-Natal south coast of South Africa. I work from home where I ponder on the future of the planet, and what lies beyond in the great hereafter. Sometimes I step out of my computer into the silent riverine forests, and empty golden beaches for which the area is renowned. Richard
