In a previous post, we discussed what to do and how to be prepared before an earthquake. And as promised, we are back again with a post about what to do During an earthquake! As per all of our other posts, we are basing it off of the Canadian Government’s Manuel! Keep reading for our summary of the tips!

So, without further adieu, here are the tips for all hurricane scenarios!

If Inside:

  • Drop: under the heaviest furniture, table…whatever that is solid and can provide protection.
  • Cover: your legs, face and back to ensure no harm comes to you.
  • & Hold On: to the object you’re under and stay put until the shaking ends.

If you cannot hide under something, crouch somewhere and cover yourself.

If Outside:

  • First things first, stay outside.
  • Go to open areas, you do not want to be near exterior walls in that situation.
  • If in a crowd, crouch somewhere away from them.

If In A Vehicle:

  • Pull over to a spot that won’t block the road.
  • Stay inside the car.
  • Avoid being anywhere that could collapse- bridges, overpasses, buildings…etc.
  • If you need help, place a HELP sign on your window.
  • Listen to the radio for any instructions from officials.

What To Avoid During An Earthquake:

  • Doorways, windows, bookcases, shelves are all dangerous as they could cause injuries so stay away.
  • Power lines…especially wet ones.
  • Elevators…do not stay or go in them! Get out as soon as you can on any floor.
  • Coastlines in case of tsunamis as mentioned in the picture!
