Top 12 Tips

  1. At the time of an emergency, ensure you have a way of having communication with the outside world. Having a cellphone with a portable charger is wise and recommended.
  2. Ensure you have a family-plan decided and agreed upon beforehand so that every member knows how to act and where to meet when emergencies occur.
  3. Having some sort of heating system that can work without electricity as it might be out is a must. Something like a portable space heater is a good option.
  4. Extra blankets and sleeping bags are necessary as well.
  5. Make sure you have at least two working flashlights.
  6. Have candles and matches.
  7. Have a working smoke alarm & a functioning carbon monoxide detector.
  8. Always make sure you have food to feed you for at least 72 hours.
  9. On that note, snacks that are non-perishable are also great. Anything you can easily leave with and have on-the-go in case of evacuation.
  10. Safe drinking water and water bottles to store water are also a necessity in case evacuation is needed.
  11. A whistle to attract attention in case of an emergency is a great thing to have.
