Anthony Fauci is a controversial figure not shy to speak his mind. He has been director of National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) since 1984. His role on the White House Coronavirus Task Force is a richly deserved, if contentious recognition. When he says close gatherings without face masks are troubling him, we should allow him to say his piece.

Close Gatherings without Masks are Troubling and Tempting Fate

CNN Health exchanged thoughts with Chris Murray on May 27, 2020. Chris is director of Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME) at University of Washington. He says there is clear proof face masks are effective. Therefore, what happens in the next two months is in the hands of the people and how they respond.

The forecast for the U.S. mortality rate for August is some 10% lower. Those in favor of face masks credit more people wearing them.  Anthony Fauci believes washing hands and wearing face protection are critical. Close gatherings without face masks are deeply troubling for him. Everybody should seriously consider taking these precautions, the internationally acknowledged infectious disease expert told CNN.

A Holiday Weekend with Fine Weather was a Great Distraction

A positive sense is building in America as the economy opens up again. Recklessness could lead to a second wave, but this could be avoided, Anthony Fauci believes. However, improving test results may cause people to resume close gatherings without face masks.  This risk is troubling leading scientists.

Moreover, the data could be flawed due to single-testing policies, and complications probing deep into respiratory systems. This potentially flawed evidence suggests we should think several times before setting our face protection aside like those kids in Berlin.

Chris Murray has said what happens in the next two months is in the hands of the people, and how they respond. This is something for everybody to consider, anywhere and everywhere in the world.

I will not deny I am obsessed with it when I have the time. I live in Margate on the Kwazulu-Natal south coast of South Africa. I work from home where I ponder on the future of the planet, and what lies beyond in the great hereafter. Sometimes I step out of my computer into the silent riverine forests, and empty golden beaches for which the area is renowned. Richard
