Concerns For the Vulnerable During Covid 19

World Health Organization has taken us along an interesting path as we consider how Covid 19 affects different population groups. We have learned the biggest fear we all have is of the unknown. However older adults, people with underlying health conditions and their carers are likely to take most strain. Therefore the healthcare organization’s concerns for the vulnerable during Covid 19 merit a post of their own.

Stress Among Top Concerns For the Vulnerable During Covid

Older people may approach the future with trepidation as their candles burn down. Those in physical isolation or with cognitive decline are especially likely to experience greater anxiety, stress, and frustration.

They need our positive emotional support more than ever. We should provide this in sensible practical ways, and help the intellectually disadvantaged understand the need for washing hands and maintaining social distances. However, we should not talk them down because they are still emotionally literate.

How Older People Who Are Alone Take Care of Themselves

Many isolated seniors share the same concerns for the vulnerable during Covid. They know they can’t afford to go into decline, and must ensure access to their essential medication. They also have links to the outside world in place, so they can stay in touch and call family, friends or carers for help if this becomes necessary.

The World Health Organization recommends they take exercise each day by walking around the neighborhood, or inside their homes if under lock-down. Keeping up with chores, singing, dancing, and rediscovering hobbies are all positive ways to promote physical and mental health.

A daily trip to neighborhood shops with the necessary precautions is no longer a pleasant diversion. This is something seniors have to do if they possibly can, in this the most difficult of times for us all.

I tripped over a shrinking bank balance and fell into the writing gig unintentionally. This was after I escaped the corporate world and searched in vain for ways to become rich on the internet by doing nothing. Despite the fact that writing is no recipe for wealth, I rather enjoy it. I will not deny I am obsessed with it when I have the time. I live in Margate on the Kwazulu-Natal south coast of South Africa. I work from home where I ponder on the future of the planet, and what lies beyond in the great hereafter. Sometimes I step out of my computer into the silent riverine forests, and empty golden beaches for which the area is renowned. Richard
