COVID Advice for Senior People, As We Age

We’re all getting a little older as we age. Things don’t work as well as they used and we develop weak points in our bodies medics call co-morbidities. Seniors are resilient. We learn how to adjust to these so we can cope better. However, COVID-19 is a little different because we can get it from other people. The National Council of Aging issued COVID advice for senior people that made sense to us, and we decided to share.

Covid Advice for Senior People Adjusting for Aging

We all have a similar chance of infecting from the virus, although we can do things to keep it at bay. Doing so is extremely important. That’s because if it enters our bodies it gains a significant advantage from any co-morbidities there. People of all ages have these chronic diseases. However, they do tend to stack up as decades pass.

The core thought in COVID advice for senior people is taking steps to manage chronic conditions, and avoid catching the coronavirus. We ought not to follow the example of young people who could withstand the infection easily. If we can catch the virus from other people,  then the simplest way to avoid it is keeping away from strangers.

Keeping Shields Up in the Presence of People We Don’t Know

Complete self-isolation is unlikely to happen for most of us. In fact, doctors are warning this could turn out psychologically unhealthy. However, we do need to keep our face coverings on, and be mentally alert at all times when we do venture out. And we must disinfect our forearms and hands as soon we return home again.

There’s still a possibility COVID-19 could infect us with apparently ordinary flu symptoms. If this happens to us, we should remember we are not young, healthy, and virile any more. We should allow the wisdom of age to kick in. National Council of Aging’s COVID advice for senior people says seeking professional advice is the best way forward in these altered times.

I will not deny I am obsessed with it when I have the time. I live in Margate on the Kwazulu-Natal south coast of South Africa. I work from home where I ponder on the future of the planet, and what lies beyond in the great hereafter. Sometimes I step out of my computer into the silent riverine forests, and empty golden beaches for which the area is renowned. Richard
