Delta or Vaccination – The Choice Is Yours

We are sixteen months into the pandemic, and we still can’t agree on the basics. Opinions are sharply divided on whether to wear face masks. And as for vaccination – well it’s more controversial than a U.S. presidential election. Our decisions are outpourings of our deeper values. But now this seems to have become a choice between catching the Delta, or having a vaccination.

Are Mask Mandates a Good or Bad Thing?

People do what they believe is right. Government around the world largely failed to convince their majorities of the logic of face masks. Moreover, mask mandates come and go, and they have lost credibility in many places.

It’s become clear face masks could have controlled the pandemic, but this is unlikely to happen in the current social climate. That whittles our choices down to one option, vaccination, barring a total lockdown which is unaffordable. Well two actually: because we could also give up the struggle and open up to the virus.

The only problem is the Delta variant is real nasty. Did you know it could affect your ability to think straight? Do you realize it could keep you out of work for a year, if it did not kill you?

The Catch 22 – Vaccination or Delta

The chances are you have strong feelings, if you don’t have your full vaccination by now. Those values may date back to when the virus was new, and we thought it was going to go away. However, that situation has changed.

The transmission rate of Delta is four times higher, and it is spreading faster. You now have a good chance of catching it if you don’t protect yourself. And then passing it on to other people, even those  you depend on or love.

The vaccine shortage is largely sorted, with manufacturers speaking of billions of shots this year. Don’t end up in intensive care and have to ask can I have my jab now. Because the nurse may have to say sorry, it’s too late. You chose the Delta over vaccination, as you slip into a coma.
