We were at risk of becoming complacent the virus was under control and we had the vaccines, when CDC announced somewhat concerning news. It told CNN and others the Delta variant now accounts for over half new U.S. COVID infections. And the previously dominant Alpha one is now trailing at 28.7%. Is the Delta variant firing a warning shot, we wondered.
Are You Wondering if This Is Time to Have the Jab?
‘If ever there was a reason to get vaccinated, this is it,’ Dr. Anthony Fauci told CNN’s Anderson Cooper Tuesday. ‘That’s because the variant poses a significant threat to unvaccinated people’ the director of National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases explained.
‘The variant is not only more transmissible,’ he continued. ‘It can also cause more severe disease’. People in areas where the vaccination rate is low are especially at risk, health officials say. Moreover, it seems we ignore the Delta variant firing a warning shot across our ‘iron dome’ of vaccination.
Emerging data from Israel indicates Pfizer-BioNTech’s mRNA vaccine effectiveness declines in the face of Delta. Last week, half Israel’s new cases were vaccinated people suggesting it only prevented two-thirds of symptomatic cases. Although we note the Israeli government only listed two COVID-19 deaths since mid-June 2021.
If Delta Variant Is Firing a Warning Shot, What Then?
We could do a couple things about this worldwide trend that’s gathering pace. For example we could run away and try to find a place to hide, or ignore what going on around us.
However, the sensible advice would be complete the vaccination program. And continue sanitizing, distancing and masking in public. And if we do still catch the virus tell the hospital, shelter alone in our bedroom, and ask all around us to wear face masks. The Delta Variant should lose the battle If we do these things, and that should be our goal.
