Thousands of new electric vehicles flooding cities daily are gradually reducing the plume of carbon in the sky overhead. But their new owners still hanker for a fast ‘top her up, check the tires, clean the windscreen’ on the fly. An embedded need for green ultra-fast charging is holding electric vehicle roll-out back. Especially as they need to be stationery for a half hour to top up their batteries.
Green Ultra-Fast Charging At Shopping Center Car Parks
The South Australia government is subsiding eight trials through grants according The Driven automobile website. They hope the innovation will prove successful, and nudge their goal of net-zero carbon emissions by 2050 forward. Green energy provider Planet Ark Power is participating at a suburban shopping center in Adelaide.
The philosophy behind this initiative is electric vehicles will park in the lot for at least a half hour, while their owners do their shopping. Some are already accustomed to using the car wash, so why not use a green ultra-fast charging station on occasions?
Besides which, shopping center car parks cost mega dollars to construct without generating direct income. A seldom-used corner of a lot could easily house a large solar power battery, and a half-dozen EV charging stations.
More About The Planet Ark Power Charging Station
The green energy supplier will trial six ultra-fast, and eight fast charging stations at the Adelaide supermarket site. These will draw power from the local utility grid during daytime. Meanwhile, a one megawatt, 1.25MWh battery energy storage system will top itself up from the sunshine beaming down.
Several benefits will flow from this arrangement. In the first instance, the local grid will benefit from less demand during peak hours. While in the second, EV owners will be able to charge their vehicles during short-term power outages. Thirdly, the supermarket owner will have a new service on offer to customers parking under welcoming solar panel roofs.
